January 20: NW Iowa Ice Storm

A Major ice storm in northwestern Iowa left areas devastated with downed branches and power outages. I "chased" the area from Dunlap to Soldier looking for the biggest accumulations. There are 22 images total.
    


January 16: Freezing fog/Hoar frost/Rime Ice

Accumulating freezing fog, either hoar frost or rime ice, I'm not sure which one. These were taken just west of Omaha, made a pretty cool looking wintry scene. A frozen wasteland, if you will. There are 7 images total.


January 7-14: Sun dogs and fog

Sun dogs after a snowstorm with lots of blowing snow, a brief CZA. Fog from an observation tower and the brightest fogbow I've ever seen. Never thought I'd be chasing fog in January lol. There are 7 images total.


November 16, 20, 27th: Squaw Creek

Went to squaw creek in the fog, snow and sun. Not a ton of great stuff in here, due to the fog/snow trips totally sucking and the one good day there weren't that many birds. There are 7 images total.


October 10: Record Snowfall

A surprise fall snowstorm blankets the Omaha area with 3-7" of snow, most of the leaves still had not only leaves, but green leaves on them. I decided to document the rare event and took some images. There are 6 images.


September 2-7: Backpacking trip

I went on a backpacking trip with 7 guys from Omaha to the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Not a ton of top notch photos, it's more of a documentation of the trip, as most shots are taking during normal light. There are 12 images total.


Autumn fog outings

Various fog images from 4-5 outings in August and September. Fog developed frequently in 2009, since it was one of the coldest summers on record. This might have been the best year for fog for a long time. There are 6 images total.


August 30: Western Iowa fog

Woke up early and drove to the Loess Hills in Western Iowa to take photos of fog from Above, later when the sun rose I saw my first fog bows and man were they bright! There are 10 images total.


August 11: Perseid Meteor shower/other

Had a meteor Marathon and observed over 270 over two days, also the most intense anticrepuscular ray I have ever seen, caused by a thunderstorm that lit up the sky and star trails. There are 8 images total.


July 28-29th: Snowy Range Trip

Hiked in the Medicine Bow mountains of southeast Wyoming. Saw a moose! summited a 12,000 foot mountain and photographed some beautiful morning light and glacial lake scenes. There are 22 images total.


July 27-28th: Black Hills Trip

Hiked Harney Peak in Custer State Park. Drove the crazy windy highway 87 with one lane tunnels. Hailstorm, Mountaingoat and great views the whole time. There are 18 images total.


July 25-27th: Badlands Trip

Camped at Sage Creek campground in Badlands National Park for two nights. Had some encounters with Big horn sheep, Buffalo, Rattlesnakes and Prairie dogs. There are two pages with 30 images total.


July 3, 2009: York, NE Fireworks

My friend Justin Unrau invited me to photograph his fireworks show at his brother in-laws about 7 miles west of York, NE. He had wired a huge show of 2800 shells together on a trailer. There are 15 images total


June 25-28th: Arkansas Trip

Camped for four days in NW Arkansas with some really cool people, A really crazy trip with a lot of unexpected adventures. Not a ton of great images, but a great experience for sure. There are 12 images total.


June 17, 2009: Aurora, Nebraska Tornado

We barely caught this incredible supercell 10 minutes before it drops the tornado of the day. We are in great position to shoot structure with the tornado on the ground. It was on the ground for 18 minutes. There are 11 images total.


June 17, 2009: Odell, Nebraska Supercell

Intercepted a huge supercell with the most incredible structure I have ever seen, We followed this storm about 25 miles. The entire meso was rotating, it was the scariest storm I have seen this year. There are 7 images total.


June 7, 2009: Dallas Center, IA wall cloud

I wasn't even chasing today, but on the way home from Minnesota we intercepted a supercell Northwest of Des Moines. After getting home Storms fired southwest of town and produce some nice CG's over i-80. There are 6 images total.


May 31, 2009: Hawthorne, IA Chase

Frustrating road options lead into a nice twilight lightning op in southwest Iowa, on the way home storms develop south of Omaha producing a lot of lightning and more opportunity for imaging. Total miles: 192. There are 8 images total.


May 1, 2009: Downtown Omaha

These are the first images taken with my wide angle sigma 10-20mm lens. The sky wasn't very generous to me, but I needed something to shoot to test the lens before getting into the real chase season. There are 9 images total.


April 4, 2009: Sutton, NE Chase

Chased a high based mini Supercell east of Sutton, Nebraska. Had nice rotation and a brief wall cloud and funnel (not associated with wall cloud), 3 tornado reports from this storm, although we didn't see it. Total Miles: 276. There are 6 images total.


March 23, 2009: Weston, NE Chase

A short Local chase on two tornado warned cells, one near Weston and Malmo, NE, the other was the Omaha tornado warned cell that previously produced a tornado near Alvo. Total Miles: 105, Severe Observed: Quarter sized hail. There are 3 images total.


March 5, 2009: Murray Hill Fog

With a clear sky forecasted, I drove the hour north to Little Sioux, Iowa and to my suprise a wall of fog developed and overtook the hill while I was on the top. Turns out that snowmelt alone can cause low lying fog. There are 16 images total.


January 30, 2009: Omaha Skyline

I barrowed a 300mm lens, and decided to shoot the Omaha skyline. I drove to Lewis and Clark Park, which is on a bluff in Council Bluffs with an incredible view of the skyline. There are 8 images total, including two large Panoramas.
