May 31, 2011: Best thing that has happened in the last couple weeks was a quick show of Auroras. It wasn't a great display, but easily the best I've seen. I'll try to get an account posted tonight from them. Only lasted about 5 minutes. Heres one picture for now. Other news, my car is running well and I'll be ready for any upcoming chase, no matter the distance. That is, IF there is ever another chase opportunity. Extended models look extremely quiet. Could be the most boring year for chasing in the plains in over 10 years. I chased yesterday around the SD/ND/MN border, but a 14c 700mb cap prevented any storms from firing and staying discrete near the warmfront. 600 mile $90 chase for a 3 minute glimpse of a shelf cloud. Pretty much no lightning on the way home either, I think I saw one cloud to ground strike the entire 4 hour drive back. Then a couple days earlier I got a breif glimpse of a tornado real close to home... about 30 miles. I didn't know the funnel I was looking at had touched the ground though. I was too busy messing with the golfball hail to notice ground circulation, a line of trees below it didn't help either... But other than that absolutely boring spring. June looks terrible. Maybe a Montana day next week, thats really all I see at this point. Hopefully it ends up active but I doubt it.

May 26, 2011: Having some car problems lately so I haven't been able to chase. I did do May 22 in SE MN, but didn't get anything more than a brief rainwrapped funnel SW of Red Wing, MN. No images worthy of posting. Storms were really messy with rain. So with the car trouble I've lost some of my chase funds paying for that to be fixed, but with the money I saved by not going to Oklahoma this past week and Kansas the two times I almost went, I spent on my car. Its a funky problem with my transmission that I'm still not sure is solved. I probably won't find out until I drive it another few hundred miles. Memorial day looks like it could be a chase day, but who knows with how this year as gone so far. Really hoping stuff gets going in the northern plains soon. This year has been largely a dud. Pretty boring summer so far. Too bad I live far from cool things to photograph. Really need some auroras, but of course as soon as I move up here the sun is quiet. Still not sure what to do with this site, I almost feel like just taking it down and doing a blog, but I can't decide. Oh yeah I guess I finished the May 10 chase account. Check it out.

May 17, 2011: Got bored and finally had a clear night with a full moon so decided to do some star trails. Nothing crazy just an old farm close to my house. Good chance I'll be chasing Thursday-Friday and maybe Saturday. You can track where I'm at on the map above. Also follow me on twitter for updates... http://twitter.com/#!/TonightsSky

May 14, 2011: Chased a slow moving supercell in central Minnesota on the 10th. Other than that the season has been a dud thus far. Eying a system mid-late next week that might be worthy of a 3-4 day plains trip. Really not sure what I'm doing with this site anymore lol, not sure I even want to keep as it seems I don't have many followers, not that there has been much to follow lately. Anyway heres a pano of the Mille Lacs county supercell. I'll try to do an account later if I get motivated.
