October 26, 2010: Couple things, first this mid-latitude cyclone affecting most of the central United States has broken multiple records! Pressure in Minnesota has been recorded as low at 957mb and still dropping! Minnesota and Wisconsin have both broken low pressure records. Winds are gusting over 60mph in parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Blizzard conditions in North Dakota and Severe weather from the Ohio valley south. Just an incredible system. I was hoping we would get some of the crazy wind gusts here in Lincoln, but so far we've only had gusts to 42mph. The last time pressure was recorded below 960mb on the mainland US was in 1998. Incredible system.

Chased in Western Iowa on Saturday, original target was Harlan, Iowa. Left Lincoln around noon and got to Avoca, Iowa by 2:30pm. We parked in a motel 6 parking lot and threw a football around waiting for storms to fire, also had the radio playing the Nebraska-Oklahoma State game. By 4:20pm it became pretty obvious that we wouldn't be getting any development this far south. Towers started going up to our north about 60 miles so we got to I-29 and got north as quickly as possible. We started getting close around 5pm but nothing was looking very good visually or on Radar. We continued North towards sioux city when finally we could make out a blocky lowering under an updraft base across the River in Nebraska, about 10 miles SW of Sioux City. Then another lowering Directly over Sioux city. This one soon became rainwrapped so we drove toward this first one we saw. The wall cloud was looking pretty good before we crossed into Nebraska, but as soon as we crossed the river it fell apart completely.

It was a right split storm so we gave it some time to hopefully cycle but it never did. I found "A storm chasers paradise" about 4 miles West of Sioux city though lol. Joking obviously. I've never seen such a ridiculous amount of powerlines so close together. Later we hoped for Auroras and stopped at a bluff near Little Sioux and the sky cleared up nicely! too bad we never got to see the pretty colors in the sky! lol. Didn't get back to Lincoln till 3am. What a waste of a Saturday.

October 14, 2010: Here's a photo from June 10th in Colorado. I need to add a few more photos to that account, as I've found a photo that is very convincing of a tornado, can be seen in this contrast enhanced photo. But the photo below is just after the possible tornado. Probably about 25 miles southwest of Yuma, Colorado.

October 11, 2010: Well it has been almost a month from my last update. And there's really nothing to update! I am done with storm chasing for the year unless we get a miraculous weekend setup. I've been really busy with school and just started working a new job, combined its about 50 hours a week. Not a lot of time to get out and photograph cool things. The good thing is that I haven't missed anything, nothing has been going on the last month, hopefully we'll get some storms fairly soon, winter or severe. Other than that I might observe the orionid meteor shower next weekend and hopefully capture a few meteors. Unfortunately this fall has been very boring compared to last. Last year we had tons of fog ops since temperatures were so below average. That and we had that record early snowstorm. It's been a warm fall thus far and sounds like we'll have a quick transition into winter.

Definitely looking forward to winter storms and especially ice storms, and hopefully will get a few blizzard chases in this year. But most of all I am looking forward to May and the end of school. Yes, I'm only two months into school and looking forward to the end. Next Spring should be my best yet, with this new job I'll be making a LOT more money than last year and working more hours. I should have a very large budget for 2011 chasing. Not only that but I won't need a job in the Spring and Summer, meaning I will be able available to chase any day! Hopefully I can survive these 50 hour weeks, cause this spring will be amazing if I can. Thats really I got so far, but don't worry, I'm still watching for any cool weather events/skies to photograph. It's just been a dead month for weather here.
