March 26, 2010: Finally had a nice clear night and I've been wanting to try star trails stacking at 800 iso, instead of 400 to see if the stars show up brighter, So I went with Chris to Platte river state park and we setup a couple trails over the pond, and this dock/marina thing. I had 30 second shots going at f/4 and iso 800. The image below is actually 187 stacked images. I used a flashlight on 5 frames to illunimate the dock with bright blue "trails". Thought the result was worth staying out till 4a.m.!

March 23, 2010: Now that it's spring I figured I should do some spring cleaning. Cleared the front page as it was getting a little long. But don't worry all the entries have been archived in the "previous entries" section to the right of this text. Last March 23 was the first chase day of the season for me, I didn't see anything that cool, just saw some lightning, hail and an updraft base. But I still saw convection, something I've yet to see in 2010. Haven't done much in the last month, in fact I don't believe I've taken a picture, certainly haven't uploaded anything.

Only a matter of time before the first chase day of the year, probably won't be until mid April, but I'm almost glad there haven't been any setups to tempt me to drive to Texas and waste money on far away early chases. Anyway, since I don't have anything new and you're probably already bored of reading this (does anyone actually read this? lol) check out my friend Chris' new photos of fog. One of the images in that account is one of my favorite images taken at Murray Hill.

Update: Reprocessed the star trail image with the river steam so the foreground isn't as bright, for the sky you use the lighten feature to stack, but then the foreground is far too bright, so I masked a single images' foreground and changed the white balance so the snow is a little more white than before. Finished the account now and it is up finally. Check it out here.

Might do some more star trails this weekend since I don't work for three days, Chris might be going to the badlands so stay tuned to his site for photos from that. Weird how photography wise this spring is more boring so far than the winter. It is nice to be able to go outside and do things without snow on the ground, but not a lot of cool weather related photography opportunities. Need some lightning outings!
March 18, 2010: I wish I could say this was from tonight, but it's not. March 7, 2009 we had some of the first lightning strikes of the season, and I got this image. I think the last time I saw lightning was August.

March 13, 2010: Been a while since I've updated, so here's whats been going on. Almost all the snow has melted and we've been in the 40s. Tuesday and Wednesday I nearly chased, glad I didn't. Saving money for Late April and May setups, but definitely encouraging to see even cold core setups. Chase season has nearly begun! Can't really describe how excited I am for the big spring systems! Still haven't had that first lightning strike of the year, or thunder. Probably try to get that page for light pillars and river steam stuff done next week, maybe Monday.
