August 13, 2010: A rather long update here, chased yesterday in western Minnesota and saw a brief multiple vortex tornado (video below). It should have produced something bigger, but it kept having to eat little storms moving NE into it. It had some MAD rotation, seriously can't believe it didn't do it west of Bellingham. I guess I missed a dark cone SW of Appleton while I was south of the meso and there was rain in my view, but no one else has photos so I don't feel as bad about it lol. But clearly there are vorticies on the ground in my video, multiple times. Already finished the account, so check out the photos of this storm. Heres the video and a couple photos from the chase just to stick on the front page.
I was clouded out for the perseid peak last night, but the night before I was out and saw 214 perseids!! Also 16 sporadics. Finally got a few on camera here are two of them... Will do an account of the Perseids and fog soon. Probably will try to watch again tonight, given its clear.
August 5, 2010: Watched again last night for them, only saw dim pillars for about 10-15 minutes. Did Observe 16 meteors and 9 of them were perseids, getting an early start to my tally. Probably will do an account of the auroras soon, I made a little animation I'll post in there too, maybe later tonight.
August 3, 2010: Brief northern lights display last night, finally observed them for the first time! even though they were very dim except for about two minutes, this was taken during that two minutes...
There's still one more CME on the way, hopefully it will be timed better and we get another display tomorrow night!
August 2, 2010: A couple recent things. Last Tuesday I was at a Cabin with my parents on Lake Chetek in Wisconsin. We were out fishing and after the anvils of the storms to the NW got to us we started to head back knowing they'd be severe. Had a pretty cool shelf/bow come through with probably 50 - 60mph winds. Here is a High Res photo or check out the one below.
Then on Saturday we went up the North shore of Lake Superior near beaver bay. Here are a couple shots. This would be a cool place to go back to for photography, there are a lot of places to be explored up there. Maybe next summer.
Hoping for an Aurora Borealis display tonight/tomorrow night or Wednesday night. Looks like the best chance since I've been up here in Minnesota. Moving back to Nebraska in two weeks, only this time I'll be in Lincoln.
