January 7-14, 2010 Fog/freezing fog/sun dogs
This a page for a few events in Mid January that don't really deserve a page of their own by themselves.
January 7th: Not quite blizzard criteria, but a ton of blowing and drifting snow on the 7th created some impressive sundogs and a dim circumzenithal Arc. Spent about 2 hours waiting for a CZA to show up, never really did, but managed to get it to show up on images, barely.
Just kinda threw this one in, didn't bother cloning out the dust specs from my dirty sensor...
January 14th: Never thought I'd be chasing fog in January of all months, but Now I'm a believer as its been foggy for an entire week without letting up. Went out at around 1am and shot with Chris Allington at Platte river state park west of Louisville. The view from the tower was kinda cool, but the moon would have helped. This train was the coolest op we had for the hour we spent up there...
Back towards the south where there was not much fog at all, this "light pillar" was just asking to be stalked with a lens...
Then we went to hunt for fogbows, ended up making the brightest one I've seen with his Jeep headlights pointing over the platte river. Getting under neath of the shadow of the headlights left these cool shadows under each side of the bow...
Then later on we went to look for more fog ops on roads south of Springfield, nothing special here. Sucks that the 50mm f/1.8 makes night images so soft.
